Inspiration - Penny De Los Santos

It's funny how things sometimes come together... I'm currently reading "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan and I'm really interested in this idea of food as a chiefly cultural and social affair as opposed to a means of losing or gaining weight. {This book is making me realize that I define food almost entirely by it's calorie/carb content and not it's many other components.}
Anyway, today I stumbled upon the work of Penny De Los Santos - a photojournalist and food photographer. I love her work and the way she reveals so much about her subjects in the foods present in different cultures.

Take a look at a video here on the blog cannell et vanille.

Her website is worth some time going through photos - Penny De Los Santos.

Buying a Zebra: Inspired by Toto

The zebra was inspired by Toto's song Africa, which came on my Pandora station at work. Toto is apparently the voice of my muse...

Everybody sing! "It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you; There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do; I bless the rains down in Africa; Gonna take some time to do the things we never had."

Can anyone tell me what that song's about? Not that it matters; it's still awesome. Anyway, do we really always need to know what it's all about??

Article: The iPad Revolution

Photoshop will now be available on tablets/iPads and there's a pretty good article about how the next phase of computer interaction is the moving away from desktop and to tablets. Here's a great quote:

"The fact is that computers and digital photography empowered us to create amazing things that weren't possible in the analog world. But by doing so, they took away the natural connection with the medium. It added a necessary-but-completely- alien layer of complexity to the creative process. They democratized access, but at the same time created new elites."

Inspiration - Photo Grids

These collages by Claire Pestaille bring to mind a photo grid assignment from last semester. I'd like to revisit the concept and maybe use these as a jumping off point. Very interesting indeed.

First Post

Hello! Welcome to click.click.tricks. - my collection of photographs and designs. This blog has been created for Art 143 and Art 177 but I hope it will live on beyond the semester and be a place to post work and hopefully inspire a dialogue.
From both courses I hope to become more proficient in digital photography and photoshop. I also hope to have a stronger portfolio by the time the semester is over as well as a clearer sense of direction for my photography and design work.

Graphic Design - Logo Redesign

From my fall graphic design course. The object was to take a real-world logo and recreate it. I choose the {now defunct} day spa called Egyptian Secret. The logo was created in InDesign and Illustrator.

Graphic Design - Words

From last semester's Graphic Design class. We were given five random words and had to express them through typography only. These words were created through modifications of fonts in Adobe InDesign; we were not allowed to use Illustrator.
Click on the images to see them larger.

This last one was a little irreverent... I think of it as my "ketchup and mustard miracle!" :0)
